You gotta love the Ministry of Revenue!!!! I am going into buiness RIGHT NOW!!!!

August 8, 2008

The folllowing video is in French but I have taken some time to work on the translation. I tried inerting subs but after 2 hours of fucking around with various subtitle tools, converters, bitrate calculators and so on…I’ve given up and have simply pasted my translation below. I hope you all enjoy watching/reading this post.

BTW, for those who do not know the show you are about to see, here’s a synopsis:

Richard Martineau and his acolyte, the journalist Patrick Lagacé, bravely assume their mission Francs-tireurs!
Les Francs-tireurs, a socio-cultural magazine searches through all critical and playful phenomena striking or unusual.

They continue to flush taboos, prejudices and shake them to take the toughest shots. Each week, in addition to the big interviews and reports of impact on the hottest topics of the time at which the issue has accustomed us, the show will include several other small segments

Translation:

Interviewer (Int): Sir you are an investigator at the ministry of revenue. Is it true that the drug traffickers and drug dealers have to pay PST (Quebec tax) and GST to the government?

Investigator (Inv): As a matter of fact everyone needs to declare every possession and every service including drugs unless they are de-taxed by law.

Int: So a drug dealer could tell me that it’s 15.00$ for weed plus PST and GST he is required to do so?

Inv: Whether it’s 2.00$ or 250 000$ He has to declare his revenue and tax.

Int: So, the cops perceive him as a drug trafficker but the government perceives him as a merchant?

Inv: ABSOLUTELY…

Customer Service Rep (CSR): Hi Can I help you?

Int: Hello sir I am an independent worker I have a business and I am wondering if I need to pay PST and GST based on my business type?

CSR: What kind of business do you have?

Int: eeeuh is this conversation being recorded?

CSR: It might be. If you don’t want it to be, you just have to say so.

Int: Welll, I am a drug dealer

CSR: Ok, this type of business is taxable.

Int: It’s taxable?

CSR: Yes

Int: So what does that mean? That I need to pay taxes?

CSR: What type of drug is it?

Int: welll, weed and cocaine.

CSR: Ok, it’s taxable

Int: What should I put on my form? Type of business, I put drug seller?

CSR: That could be it.

Int: Drug trafficking to make it shorter I guess.

CSR: Yes.

Back to the investigator:

Inv: It’s true that we could perceive this in different ways but we only have one mission: Collect taxes.

Int: Collect taxes even though it’s on illegal activities, Illicit, Immoral we don’t care we collect taxes.

Inv: The entire population is aimed at by the fiscal rules. In this view, whether you’re a criminal or not, I think that WE do not see any difference

Int: So I just send you the money and everything’s fine?

Back to the Customer Service Rep:

CSR: Yes, You can also declare your expenses and should keep your receipts.

Int: My expenses? I should keep all my expenses receipts?

CSR: Yes, so that you can claim your expenses.

Int: Euuh, those would be my scales…

CSR: Your scales, what you buy from your suppliers.

Int: Whatever I buy from my suppliers?

CSR: Yes, they need to provide you with receipts.

Int: What about my trips to Columbia? Can I do that too?

CSR: If it’s part of your business activities, yes.

Int: If it’s part of them, it’s ok? Are you certain that the police will not find out about that?

CSR: Under article 69 of the ministry of revenue everything is confidential.

Back to the investigator:

Int (laughing): I guess there must be some limits. If someone is a hired killer and has made 200 000$ last year and wants to pay his taxes you would sit down with him and calculate his taxes?

Inv: Absolutely sir, that’s what we would do. My mission (mission of the ministry), equity is the goal and that’s what drives us…

God bless the Ministry of Revenue!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
